Position summary

The Application Engineer will be responsible for working closely with customers to develop laser and secondary operational processes to manufacture new products. Application Engineers will also explore new laser capabilities and develop cutting edge manufacturing methods. This will work with directly with customers to develop solutions to meet their challenging applications. The position will require flexible hours, fast paced work ethic, and efficient engineering methods. This position will also include the development of new products, challenges, and opportunities to be defined daily with the latest in laser manufacturing technology.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to understand customer requests and develop processes to manufacture prototype products with an understanding of DFM.
  • Create and debug laser CNC programs, debug Master CAM/CNC programming (G&M codes)
  • Multi-task between setup, secondary operations, measurement, and design testing
  • Operate laser workstation to process R&D and prototype parts to meet customer specifications
  • Interpret CAD models and drawings.
  • Measure and inspect manufactured prototype and R&D parts to meet customer specifications
  • Develop cutting edge manufacturing methods to accommodate customer needs
  • Evaluate prints and requirements, providing DFM feedback to the customer
  • Document developed parameters, techniques, tooling, and processes
  • Perform customer qualifications as set per requirements
  • Perform and support secondary processes and technology as needed
  • Enter production information into the ERP system
  • Work with customers during onsite development visits and other Cretex facilities
  • Support and comply with the company Quality System, ISO, and medical device requirements
  • Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and document work instructions, standard operating procedures, and training documents
  • Partner with other business segments: sales/marketing, customer service, engineering, quality, and finance
  • Establish and maintain positive customer relationships
  • Ability to work with confidential products, processes, and customers.
  • Understand customer needs and the core business markets we serve
  • Ensure business systems are implemented, maintained, and functioning properly
  • Participate in required company meetings
  • Maintain an organized work area (5S)
  • Participate in the Operational Excellence Program
  • Complete all other work duties as assigned
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and in a Cleanroom

Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience (incl. KSA's and certifications)

  • Associates Degree in Laser manufacturing related program or BS Engineering field
  • Ability to consistently achieve short- and long-term business results
  • Mechanical aptitude and independent problem-solving skills
  • Engineering and/or process development background
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be results oriented and see products to completion
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, independently prioritize and multitask

Desirable Criteria & Qualifications

  • Project leadership experience
  • Experience in an R&D environment
  • Medical device knowledge
  • Aerotech software or equipment experience
  • Experience processing metals or polymers with multiple laser types.

Physical & Environmental Demands

Cretex Companies use cutting oils, solvents, and other chemicals in the manufacturing process. Testing is conducted on a periodic basis to ensure that all chemicals are kept well below the OSHA permissible exposure levels.
